HOPE - A car fire just north of Hope on the Coquihalla Highway has spread to the neighbouring trees and partially shut down the highway.

Drive B.C. is reporting that Highway 5 was closed in both directions from Highway 3 to Merritt because of a forest fire but that it has since partially reopened.

As of 8 p.m., July 3, the highway is open but is down to a single lane northbound at Caroline Mines Road and speed limits are reduced in the area.

B.C. Wildfire is reporting the fire as five hectares in size and says crews and aircraft are responding. Currently six crew members are on scene with more on route.
