Food Network chef joins Kelowna fundraiser for TRU athletes involved in fatal car crash

The memorial for McInnis lines the sidewalk near the crash site, just across the road from Thompson Rivers University.

A Kelowna restaurant will be holding a fundraiser to support the families of the Thompson Rivers University student athletes involved in a fatal multi-vehicle crash in Kamloops last month.

Pretty Not Bad will host a fundraiser to support the families of Owyn McInnis who was killed in the accident, Riley Brinnen who suffered a spinal injury and is recovering in Vancouver, and Owen Waterhouse who is currently in a medically induced coma at hospital in Kamloops, according to a news release.

The three students were in a car stopped at the intersection of University Drive and McGill Road when it was hit by a pickup truck on Nov. 29. A total of five vehicles were involved in the collision when a Dodge Ram first hit several trees before colliding with a Volkswagen stopped at the McGill Road and University Drive intersection.

The co-owner of Station Hospitality Group, Rhona Lindsey, has been working tirelessly to fundraise for the families of the boys. Along with this event she'll be hosting more events in the coming weeks to bring support to the families affected.

The event will be held at 8:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 30 at Pretty Not Bad, 740 Clement Ave. in Kelowna.

Mamas for Mamas is also accepting donations on behalf of the families for those who want to donate through a tax-deductible charity.
