A kitten the size of a softball was found in a dumpster in Kamloops a few days ago and its rescuers are wondering if it belongs to someone.

Angela Busenius’ daughter was the one who discovered the kitten on Friday, May 12, when she heard some mewing while helping her friend dump garbage at a restaurant she was working at.

“She came home and said, 'mom, don’t be mad,'” Busenius said. “She showed me the kitten and I thought how could I be mad?”

They took the kitten to a vet who determined it was a female between five and six weeks old that had likely been in the dumpster for roughly two days based on its dehydration. The kitten was otherwise uninjured and in good health.

Busenius doesn’t think foul play was necessarily involved and wants to make sure someone isn’t missing their pet.

“It was relatively healthy and uninjured, I don’t think it was thrown into the dumpster,” she said. “It could have been a stray mom who could have dropped her in, not sure. The dumpster was near a vet. Why not drop the kitten there? It doesn’t make sense.”

She said her daughter initially scoured the area and the dumpster for signs of a mother cat or other kittens but didn’t find anything.

They are hoping to keep the kitten, which appears to have made friends with their dog. They've named the kitten Paisley.

Busenius looked around on lost pets social media groups and couldn’t find anyone looking for the kitten, and she wants to keep it. She’s named it Paisley.

“Initially she (the kitten) was spicy and scared of everything, the dogs were interested in her and she was nervous at first,” she said. “Now she is super playful and becoming good buddies with my golden retriever.”

She said she’s happy to return the kitten but anyone who claims her will have to provide the area of town the kitten was found in.

“We are hoping to keep her, she’s very cute and has chosen us as her family.”
