The owner of a French bulldog that was stolen from inside her car in Kamloops last week said she “could finally sleep” after the dog was found and taken into the custody of a trusted friend a couple of nights ago.

Nanaimo woman Madielyn Magdales was travelling with a group that stayed overnight in the Tournament Capital on route to view farm property in Alberta beginning of May. The next day, while she was busy in the motel room packing to go, her dog was taken from her car through an open window in the parking lot of Canada’s Best Value Inn and Suites on Columbia Ave.

“My other drivers saw a large group of adults and families in the parking lot and some looking at the dog but they didn’t know she was taken,” she said in a previous interview with iNFOnews. “When I checked she was gone.”

Magdales immediately phoned animal control and the SPCA, and then appealed to the public for witnesses, offering a $2,000 reward through an article with iNFOnews.ca, social media and posters friends in Kamloops hung up around the city.

She said she eventually received tips that led to the dog being picked up by RCMP on Friday, May 12.

“Someone saw her with a lady..., the one who took her from my car, and told me about it the other day,” Magdales said. “The nice lady who told me about Luna’s sighting was really helpful and didn’t want the reward but I told her it would be donated to a good cause.”

The dog is currently in the care of Magdales' friend in Kamloops while she works out plans to fly the dog to her new place in Grande Prairie.

Magdales is relieved her dog is safe and grateful to the kind people who helped her get her dog back, a dog she described as "like one of her children."

Last year the Canadian Kennel Club rated French bulldogs as the fifth most popular in the country.
