Kamloops RCMP are investigating after five suspicious fires were reported between Saturday and Monday morning.

On April 1, around 1:20 a.m., police were called to their fifth fire in the area in just over 48 hours, according to a news release. The fire was at a residential complex on the 400 block of St. Paul Street.

The report indicates a loud noise was heard followed by flames on the east side of the building. A jerry can was located near the building as part of the investigation. The Kamloops Fire and Rescue quickly extinguished the fire and no one was hurt.

The first fire of the five occurred on March 30 around 1 a.m. on the 800 block of Valhalla Drive.

"At that time, police received multiple reports of an explosion caused by what appeared to be a Molotov cocktail thrown at a building,” Cpl. Crystal Evelyn, Kamloops RCMP Detachment spokesperson, said in the release. “A man associated (with) a pickup truck was observed in the area.”

The second fire occurred on the same day around 2 a.m. at a motel on the 1800 block of the East Trans-Canada Highway. Kamloops Fire and Rescue were notified of a small fire outside an electrical room which appeared to be intentionally lit.

Around 3:10 a.m. of the same night, the Kamloops RCMP received reports of another fire in cedar hedges. No damage was reported to any nearby buildings.

Around 6:55 a.m. the fourth fire was called into the Tk'emlúps Rural RCMP at the 400 block of Chilcotin Road where firefighters extinguished the fire and three vehicles appeared to have been vandalized.

“While there are some similarities in a couple of the reports, there are also a lot of differences,” Cpl. Evelyn said in the release. “At this time, the motives and any connection between the fires is still under investigation.”

The police have released images from the Valhalla Drive and St. Paul Street fire with the hope someone will have more information or footage relating to the incidents.

The Valhalla Drive incident resulted in footage of a pickup truck and a person in the area as shown in the image above. The quality of the image of the suspect is poor, but police hope other individuals might have better-quality footage.

In the St. Paul incident, the suspect is described as wearing a blue hooded zip jacket with a reflective strip on the right sleeve near the wrist, a large reflective patch on the right chest side and a wide reflective strip across the upper back. Along with a black zippered backpack with the main zip pocket and a small zip pocket in the front. The suspect is also seen wearing dark pants, gloves and a toque under their jacket hood with black shoes with white soles.
