LOGAN LAKE - The cause of an explosion and fire that destroyed a Logan Lake home yesterday has yet to be determined.
Logan Lake Fire Rescue attended the scene around 2 p.m. after reports of a residential fire.
“When we arrived, the home was fully involved,” said fire chief Dan Leighton. “Apparently, there was an explosion… at this time we don’t have a cause.”
The fire spread through the roof and windows. Two people who had been renting the home for just six days were in the home and were taken to Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
“They had smoke inhalation possibly and were taken into Kamloops for observation,” Leighton said.
The fire crew and insurance company will investigate the cause of the fire — a ‘total loss’ according to Leighton — but not before the building is cleared for safety.
“It’s not safe to get into it,” Leighton said. “We’ll have to take some of the building down to make it safe.”
