Fire at mobile home park in Kelowna injures woman

Kelowna firefighters on the scene of a trailer fire at the Lake city Mobile Home Park in the 3500 block of McCulloch Road, Friday, Nov. 18, 2016.

KELOWNA - Fire crews put out fires at a mobile home park in Kelowna this morning.

Firefighters were called to the blaze at about 11:10 a.m., Nov. 18, at a home in the Lake City Mobile Home Park in the 3500 block of McCulloch Road in Southeast Kelowna.

A woman who appears to be in her late 50s was seen leaving in an ambulance but platoon captain Tim Light says in a media release she refused to be taken to hospital. She suffered minor burns and smoke inhalation.

Light says the woman put fireplace ashes in a container that then caught fire. The flames spread to the plastic siding of the home as well as a plastic shed nearby. Neighbours say they saw flames and black smoke before firefighters arrived on scene.

The woman, who lives in the mobile home with her husband, was burned trying to put out the fires, Light says.
