Fire at Kelowna General Hospital

KELOWNA - Kelowna Fire Department were called to the Kelowna General Hospital today.

At approximately 1:00 p.m. today, May 12, the Kelowna Fire Department dispatch center received a 911 call reporting a small fire in a room on the fifth floor of the Centenial building at Kelowna General Hospital.

A media release says the staff had extinguished the fire with the fire extinguishers by the time the first arriving officer was on site.

Crews were sent to the area to confirm the fire was out.

The fire was confined to a small desk and chair with no extension to the surrounding area.

There were no injuries to staff or patients and no evacuation was required.

The incident will be investigated by the RCMP.

KFD responded with two engines a command vehicle and nine people.

The Kelowna Fire Department would like to remind everyone to check your smoke alarms.
