A 30-year-old woman was killed in a multi-vehicle crash yesterday afternoon on Highway 97 near Ellison Lake in Kelowna.

The crash, involving four vehicles, happened at around 3:30 p.m. yesterday, Sept. 20, in the 8300 block of Highway 97 North, according to an RCMP media release.

RCMP say a green Chevrolet SUV heading southbound crossed the centre line and hit a black Dodge pickup in the northbound lanes. A grey Acura car and orange Toyota pickup were also involved in the collision.

A 30-year-old female passenger in the SUV was declared dead at the scene, while a the 36-year-old male driver was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

“Fortunately, the occupants of the other three vehicles did not sustain serious injuries in this collision,” Kelowna RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Jocelyn Noseworthy said in the release.

The scene of the crash was closed for hours.

The B.C. Coroners Service is also investigating, RCMP said, and the identity of the woman killed in the crash will not be made public at this time.

“The Kelowna RCMP Traffic Service Unit has taken carriage of this investigation. We are asking anyone who witnessed the collision, has dash cam or surveillance video, or has any information, to come forward and speak with us,” Noseworthy said.

No charges have been laid yet.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact RCMP at 250-762-3300.
