One person is dead and two seriously injured after a car crashed into a pickup truck near Glacier National Park’s east gate at about 11 a.m. yesterday, Dec. 26.
Witnesses told police the car was eastbound on Highway 1 west of Golden when the driver lost control and it spun into oncoming traffic.
The driver in the car was the sole occupant and was pronounced dead at the scene.
“Both occupants in the pickup truck suffered serious injuries and one was airlifted to a larger area hospital,” a Golden-Field RCMP news release says. “The identities of those involved will not be released out of respect for the families.”
The highway was closed until 3 p.m.
“We would like to extend our sincere condolences to the family members of those involved in this tragic incident,” Const. Kat Robinson, media relations officer for the Golden-Field RCMP, said in the news release. “This is particularly difficult around the holidays and our hearts go out to you.”
