Events aplenty in Kamloops and Okanagan for Pride Month

Events are being held throughout June in Kamloops and the Okanagan in recognition of Pride Month.

Pride Month is celebrated in cities across the world to promote greater acceptance and tolerance of the variety of sexual orientations and gender identities.

The first event, MX. at the Friends of Dorothy Lounge in Kelowna, happens today, June 1, from 5 to 7 p.m. MX. events are for the LGBTQ community and allies to network, gather and socialize.

On June 4 in Penticton the Pride Kickoff will be happening at the Dream Cafe, which features poetry, belly dancing and drag from local queer and trans performers.

In Vernon on June 4, Ella Lamoureux and Wanda Lust will be the stars of two Fruitcake drag shows at the Furhouse. The early show will be for all ages and the later show is 19-plus.

The Kelowna Pride Bike March & Social is planned for June 8, at 6:30 p.m. when cyclists will meet at the Rotary Centre for the Arts before going on a cruise and meeting at Jackknife Brewing for drinks and appies.

The following day, June 9, is the Kelowna Pride Trans March Social. The march will begin at 5:30 p.m. downtown at the Sails sculpture, and will lead to the Kelowna Art Gallery socializing, guest speakers and performers.

In Kamloops on June 9, the monthly Rainbrews meet-up will be happening at Alchemy Brewing Company from 6 to 9 p.m.

“Come and join us at a new location each month for appies, drinks, and mingling,” the event description says. “Allies are welcome and encouraged.”

Kelowna’s Pride March and Festival is planned in Kelowna on June 11 at City Park from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

In Kamloops on June 11, will be Pride in the Park: Born This Way. The event features two spin and yoga classes, one at 9 a.m. and one at 10:45 a.m., at St. Andrews on the Square. Registration is required.

On June 15 in Kamloops, the Thompson Rivers University Pride Club will be hosting the Pride Picnic on campus from 2 to 4 p.m.
