A wildfire located to the south of the Okanagan Connector is now estimated to be 400 hectares in size and is blazing out of control.

The Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen has issued an evacuation order for 43 properties in Electoral Area H.

There is a current shortage of hotel accommodations, so evacuated residents are asked to stay with friends or family if possible, according to a release from the regional district.

The Brenda Creek wildfire located northwest of Peachland is now mapped at 400 hectares as of this morning, July 14, up from 250 ha, according to the B.C. Wildfire Service. It was first discovered Thursday, July 14. It is classified as out of control and is exhibiting "aggressive fire behaviour," according to the service.

Six firefighters are on the ground on Thursday morning and are being supported by helicopters and air tankers.

It's currently burning south of Highway 97C, but there is no threat to highways at this time, according to wildfire information officer, Aydan Corray.

Emergency Support Services can be found at 199 Ellis Street in Penticton, if needed, but all residents are asked to register as evacuees.

Another small fire was also reported by the wildfire service yesterday, July 14 south of Peachland along Highway 97. It is still estimated to be spot fire sized, 0.01 ha, said fire information officer Taylor MacDonald.

See the Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen website here for more information.
