PENTICTON - The evacuation order issued earlier this afternoon for residents near the Testalinden Creek wildfire has been expanded to include recreational areas and Crown land.
The recreational areas around Burnell (Sawmill) Lake, Ripley Lake and Madden Lake, to the west of Oliver have been placed within the expanded evacuation order today, Aug. 28.
As well, the Emergency Operations Centre is asking people to stay away from all Crown land areas south of Orofino Creek Road in the Burnell (Sawmill) Lake, Ripley Lake and Madden Lake areas.
Early this afternoon, an evacuation order was issued for 27 properties on Fairview Road, Willowbrook Road and Old Golf Course Road. The properties were previously on evacuation alert.
The evacuation order is likely a result of high winds forecast in the area near the northwest flank of the fire.
All property owners who are impacted by the order are asked to register at the reception centre located at the Oliver Community Centre at 6359 Park Dr. The centre can be contacted at 250-809-8430.
For more information regarding the evacuation notice see the regional district website.
