KAMLOOPS - Kamloops police have a dangerous driving suspect in custody following an incident on the North Shore this morning.

RCMP were notified of an erratic driver around 6:30 a.m. today, Oct. 23. Police received numerous complaints about a female motorist speeding, driving through stop signs and red lights, and almost hitting a pedestrian.

The driver refused to stop for police as the vehicle headed east on the Trans-Canada Highway and eventually hit a moving transport truck near Lafarge Bridge.

The transport driver was uninjured, as was the speeding motorist, who was taken to a local medical faculty for observation.

RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Jodie Shelkie said in a press release the 29-year-old Kamloops woman is known to police and under investigation for impaired driving.

The Trans-Canada Highway’s eastbound lanes were closed for a short period to clear the vehicles.
