Elderly Salmon Arm woman dies after being hit by a pickup truck

Salmon Arm RCMP are appealing to the public for witnesses after a senior was struck by a truck late last week and later died in hospital.

According to a Salmon Arm RCMP media release the incident took place Jan. 15, just before 3 p.m. at 3 Street SW and Highway 1 in Salmon Arm.

The pedestrian was a woman in her 80s who was struck by a Ford F-150 pickup truck turning onto the highway. She was rushed to hospital but succumbed to the injuries and died.

The driver of the truck remained at the scene and fully cooperated with investigators.

"Although investigators have ruled out certain contributing factors, police and the B.C. Coroners Service is appealing to other witnesses to come forward, and ask anyone with any dash camera footage to contact police," B.C. RCMP Southeast District Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey said in the media release.

The B.C. Coroners Service is also now investigating the woman’s death and has launched a concurrent fact-finding investigation.

Anyone who may have witnessed the collision, and has and has not yet spoken to police, is asked to call the Salmon Arm RCMP at 250-832-6044.
