WEST KELOWNA – A report of an erratic driver led police to the arrest of an allegedly prohibited driver in West Kelowna on Christmas morning.
RCMP say a 50-year-old West Kelowna man is facing potential charges of impaired driving.
On Dec. 25 at 10:39 a.m., police responded to a complaint about a black Ford Explorer weaving in and out of traffic, and crossing the centre line near Boucherie Road and Sunnyside Road, Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey says in a media release.
The caller was able to give police a license plate number for the suspect vehicle.
O’Donaghey says police caught up with the driver as he pulled into the driveway of the vehicle's registered owners residence. The registered owner of the vehicle was a prohibited driver.
Police detected strong signs of alcohol impairment. An impaired investigation was started and the driver was taken to the Kelowna RCMP detachment. The driver provided breath samples well over two and a half times the legal limit of .08, O’Donaghey says.
He stayed in police custody overnight and has a court appearance in February 2017.
If you witnessed this driver’s behaviour prior to being stopped by the RCMP and have not yet spoken to police you are asked to contact the West Kelowna RCMP at 250-768-2880.
