SALMON ARM - Two people are in hospital after a vehicle swerved across the road, into a ditch and struck a tree this morning.

An eastbound vehicle swerved across the centre line on Highway 1 near Third Nations Road around 7:30 a.m. today, April 28, RCMP say in a release. The vehicle then went into a ditch and struck a tree.

The elderly female driver was airlifted to Royal Inland Hospital while her male passenger was transported by ground ambulance to Shuswap Lake General Hospital. The extent of either person’s injuries is unknown.

RCMP say the investigation is ongoing but preliminary indications show there may have been a medical emergency just prior to the collision.
