Downtown collision sends cyclist to Kelowna hospital with serious injuries

KELOWNA - A Kelowna cyclist suffered serious injuries during a collision with a truck around lunchtime today.

A 58-year-old man was sent by ambulance to Kelowna General Hospital, Kelowna RCMP media officer Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey said in a press release, after a collision between a cyclist and a full size pick-up truck at Doyle Avenue and Richter Street today, Aug. 7.

Police allege the cyclist was not wearing a helmet and may have veered suddenly into traffic.

Both the victim and the driver of a black Ford F350 were southbound on Richter Street, police say. A collision reconstructionist is investigating.

The 60-year-old driver of the Ford didn’t drive off and is cooperating with police.

If you saw this collision, and haven’t spoken to police, contact Const. Troy Bevan at 250-762-3300.
