The discovery of a body of a man and his dog near Kamloops this past weekend is now a homicide investigation and RCMP have released the man's identity in hopes of garnering tips from the public.

The body of Kamloops resident Mark Hoffman, along with his dog, were discovered near his green Ford Explorer in the Inks Lake area on Saturday, Dec. 16. RCMP said he was last seen alive leaving his home around 2 p.m. the day before.

Police notified the public on Dec. 18, about the discovery of the bodies but only said the circumstances surrounding their deaths were under investigation.

RCMP identified the victim today, Dec. 21, and confirmed Hoffman's death is being investigated as a murder.

“We are urging the public to assist in this investigation. We’re particularly interested in speaking with anyone who had interactions with Mark Hoffman on Dec. 15 or Dec. 16, or anyone who was in the vicinity of the crime scene during that period,” Insp. Brent Novakoski of the Southeast District Major Crimes Unit said in a news release.

RCMP said previously the bodies were found to the east of Inks Lake, but clarified today that they were found west of Highway 5, off Inks Lake Road within the Logan Lake Community Forest.

Police have released a photo of both Hoffman and his dog in an effort to generate tips from the public.

The public is encouraged to come forward with any information, no matter how insignificant it may seem. If you were in this area or had any contact with Mark Hoffman during the specified dates, contact the Southeast District Major Crimes Unit tip line at 1-877-987-8477.
