The body of a man in his 50s and his dog were found in a community forest near Kamloops on the weekend and the circumstances surrounding their deaths are under investigation.

Officers were called at around 2:40 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 16, to the Inks Lake Road turnoff near the Chuwels Inks trail west of Highway 5, according to an RCMP media release.

Officers found the bodies of the man and his large dog near an older model green Ford Explorer.

RCMP said the man was last seen leaving his Kamloops home with his dog at around 2 p.m. Friday.

Police have released photos of the Explorer in hopes of jogging someone’s memory.

“The area the deceased was located in is known for recreational activities, such as hiking and dirt biking,” RCMP Staff Sgt. Sascha Fesenko said in the release.

“We’re hopeful someone saw the man or his truck and will contact police with any information that may be related.”

Both RCMP and BC Coroners Service are investigating.

Anyone who may have seen the vehicle on Friday or Saturday, or any associated activity that may be related to this incident, is asked to contact the Tk’emlúps Rural RCMP at 250-314-1800.
