Temperature records are being broken across the B.C. interior this week.

A heat warning is currently in effect for much of the province, with temperatures soaring to 40 C in some areas.

Daily temperature records were broken in Lytton yesterday, with a new record of 42.2 C for the day. The old record was set in 2018 at 41.4 C, according to Environment Canada.

Kamloops also saw a new record when it reached 37.9 C, breaking the old number set in 1996 of 37.6 C. Records in this area have been kept since 1921.

Merritt also barely scraped to a new high when it reached 37.2 C, beating the old 37 C record set in 2003.

Records in this area have been kept since 1918, according to Environment Canada.

Lillooet saw a new record of 40.1, beating the old 39.8 C set in 2018, Cache Creek saw 41.2 C yesterday, a new daily record beating the old 39.2 C set in 2018.

In the Kootenays, Nelson and Trail also beat their daily temperature records, with Nelson reaching 38.6 C, beating the old record of 38.5 set in 2003 and Trail reached 40 C, beating the old 39.3 C record set in 2014.

High temperatures are expected to continue from now through Monday, according to Environment Canada, before the weather begins to cool off.
