Two Montreal cops arrested over incident with homeless man in 2010

MONTREAL - Two Montreal police officers arrested Wednesday after an incident with a homeless man in 2010 face charges of forcible confinement, assault and uttering death threats, say Quebec provincial police.

Patrick Guay and Pierre-Luc Furlotte were freed on a promise to appear in court at a later date.

They allegedly ramrodded the homeless man into their cruiser before driving him off the island of Montreal, forcing him to get back home on his own.

An initial internal inquiry went nowhere but a follow-up probe headed by a special investigative team led to the officers being assigned to administrative duties.

They have now been suspended with pay pending the legal proceedings.

Montreal police Insp. Ian Lafreniere did not have the ages of the officers but said they each had less than five years' experience back in 2010.
