Kamloops firefighters put out a blaze at a motel in Valleyview this afternoon.

Platoon Capt. Mike Haines with Kamloops Fire Rescue says firefighters were called to the blaze in one of the rooms at the Country View Motor Inn at around 1:20 p.m. today, Nov. 29.

“There was nobody staying in the unit that was involved,” Haines says. “There was a tenant in the unit but they were gone for the day.”

Haines says the cause of the fire won’t be determined until fire inspectors are available, and now that crews have mopped, they will close off the area until inspectors can arrive.

“We don't have a fire inspector available so we’re having the unit boarded up. Once our fire inspectors are back, they will look at the (unit) and try to determine the cause," he says.
