KEREMEOS — Police in the South Okanagan were busy this weekend as they traveled the region holding road checks and pulling impaired drivers off the road.

A 51-year-old man from Oliver is facing criminal charges after his breathe sample was 2.5 times over the limit, while eight others blew well over the limit and received immediate 90 day roadside prohibition, according to an RCMP media release. They also had their cars impounded and have to pay a $500 fine.

One was a motorcycle rider caught as he was entering Summerland travelling 170 km/h on Saturday night, June 17. The 22-year-old from West Kelowna got a $483 speeding fine and had his motorcycle seized on top of the roadside prohibition penalties.

Another of the impaired drivers was caught thanks to a tip from the public.

On top of the failures, three drivers were issued warnings. The traffic enforcement took place in Osoyoos, Oliver, Okanagan Falls, Penticton and Summerland.

Cpl. Ryan McLeod says in the release police received positive comments from the public during the enforcement.

“We would like to recognize and thank our communities for their continued support,” he says.
