KAMLOOPS - A woman sleeping in a dumpster ended up in a garbage truck and had to be rescued by Kamloops firefighters in frigid temperatures this morning.
Kamloops Fire Rescue was dispatched around 8 a.m. today, Feb. 11, after they received a call about a woman on top of a garbage truck in the Brocklehurst area.
"The driver had come and picked up the dumpster and drove away and was going to the next dumpster and noticed a lady in his mirrors," Platoon Capt. Darryl Cooper says.
Firefighters attended the scene and used a ladder to get the woman who appeared to be in her mid-30s down from on top of the truck.
Cooper says she refused medical treatment and RCMP showed up shortly after the rescue.
Kamloops RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Jodi Shelkie says the woman appeared to have no injuries.
The mercury dipped to -19 Celsius in Kamloops overnight.
He says this is the first time he has responded to a call like this.
"I've heard of these [calls], but no I have never personally been called to one," he says.
