KAMLOOPS - The city has introduced a new mobile parking app to make it easier for commuters to pay for parking when they are downtown.
Whoosh is a parking application that automatically identifies your location using GPS so drivers can pay and extend parking times right on their smartphone, according to a City of Kamloops media.
The app is free to download with a smartphone or a desktop, the city says. Users will also need a credit card to complete an account registration.
“We heard what the public had to say with the challenges of the previous mobile service provider. This new system will allow for expiry notifications and time extensions directly from a user’s phone,” the city's bylaw services manager John Ramsay says in the release. “We believe we have found a provider that is user-friendly for all.”
The app will be available for downtown street parking and city-owned downtown lots. Users will be able to select the parking location closest to their vehicle. A green pin will indicate lot parking and a pink pin for street parking.
The system will also send notifications of when parking time is close to expiry and give users an option to extend their time if it is available.
More information on how to use the app can be found on the city’s website here.
