PENTICTON - Valley First Challenge Penticton has invited the regional district to take a sponsorship role in Challenge’s triathlon races to the tune of $48,000 over three years.
Challenge Penticton owners Kevin Cutjar and Michael Brown met with Regional District Okanagan Similkameen directors Thursday, July 16 to offer the board the opportunity to be the naming sponsor of the volunteer team and the bike course.
Cutjar says it would be a good way for the regional district to bring awareness about what it does for the community.
“We feel throughout the event we can provide the regional district access to our clientele to promote tourism and specific attractions within our region,” Cutjar says. “We are a destination race and we hope the RDOS representatives see a relationship with Challenge Penticton as a great opportunity to promote their area through our event.”
The regional district's chief administrative officer Bill Newell says Challenge Penticton wants $48,000 over three years, but the board will discuss the request further at a future meeting.
“We don’t have a position at this point,” Newell says.
