Canadian Sport School Hockey League Championships return to Penticton

FILE PHOTO - The South Okanagan Events Centre will be one of the venues for the Canadian Sport School Hockey League Championships, which take place for the third year in a row in Penticton, March 13 to March 19, 2017.

PENTICTON - Penticton will play host to the Canadian Sport School Hockey League Championships again this year, and for the next three years.

The tournament, which will be held from March 13 to March 19, will take place at several venues in the South Okanagan this year, including the South Okanagan Events Center and the Memorial Arena in Penticton, and at the Oliver and Summerland arenas.

The tournament involves Midget Prep, Midget Varsity, Elite 15s, Bantam Prep and Bantam Varsity, each vying for championship titles in their respective divisions. The championship awards ceremony is slated for Thursday, March 16 at the events centre.

Canadian Sport School Hockey League media director Tyson Giuriato says the the league recently voted to hold the annual event in Penticton for another three years.

He says the tournament has been held in Vernon and Banff in the past, but that was when only 20 teams took part. The championships have been held in Penticton since 2015, growing from 33 teams and 609 athletes to 49 teams and over 900 athletes this year.

Tickets for the Canadian Sport School Hockey League Championships are now on sale.
