There is a good possibility of traffic congestion and slowdowns along Highway 97 between Oliver and Vernon tomorrow afternoon as the Canadian Armed Forces moves troops working the wildfires in the South Okanagan to North Okanagan.

Up to 80 Canadian Armed Forces personnel and their equipment are moving from Oliver to the Vernon Cadet Training Centre in Vernon along Highway 97 tomorrow, Aug. 27, according to a National Defence media release.

Troops have been combatting the Thomas Creek wildfire in the South Okanagan and will now assist B.C. Wildfire Service on the White Rock Lake fire near Vernon.

The move is being conducted by Land Task Force Vernon and there will be several large green Medium Support Vehicles, Light Utility Vehicle Wheeled (aka G-Wagon) and multiple pick-up trucks transiting the route in small groupings.

The Land Task Force is participating in Operation LENTUS, the Canadian Armed Forces’ response to natural disasters, on the request of the Government of British Columbia.

Drivers are being asked to be patient tomorrow.
