Campfire bans being lifted in Thompson-Okanagan in time for the long weekend

The Kamloops Fire Centre is lifting the campfire ban at noon on Sept. 4.

This should make a lot of campers happy — campfires are returning in time for the long weekend.

B.C. Wildfire Service announced the prohibition on campfires will be lifted throughout the Kamloops Fire Centre as of noon on Sept. 2. However local bylaws may overrule the fun in certain areas.

While conditions are safe enough to trust the public with campfires, people are still encouraged to exercise caution.

B.C. Wildfire reminds the public that many fire bans remain in place – Category 2 and 3 open fires, fireworks, sky lanterns, burn barrels and binary exploding targets are still prohibited.
