Cache Creek Landfill Set To Close Earlier

Wastech Services has moved up the closure date of the Cache Creek Landfill to December 15, 2016, from the original date of December 31.

The Thompson-Nicola Regional District will now take over operations of the Transfer Station effective December 16, instead of the original planned date of January 1, 2017.

The TNRD is committed to ensuring area residents continue to have a facility for solid waste disposal regardless of the status of the Cache Creek Landfill.

The Transfer Station, located in the same location as the landfill, will continue to provide the same services with the list of accepted materials remaining unchanged.

Disposal fees will be implemented starting January 1. Household garbage will be charged at $1/bag or $10 for a standard size pick-up truck load. Construction and demolition waste is charged at a higher rate, starting at $30 for a standard size pickup load. The attendant on site will ensure all loads are assessed and charged fairly.

Those who anticipate generating a large volume of waste, such as demolition of a building, are asked to contact the TNRD in advance to arrange for disposal.

Disposal fees are only payable by pre-paid punch cards called Eco-Cards, or charge account for commercial users. Please note cash, credit, or debit are not accepted for payment.

Eco-Cards are available in $10, $20, or $50 denominations and are now available for purchase from the following retailers:

  • Village of Cache Creek, 1389 Quartz Rd., Cache Creek
  • Shell Gas Station, 1290 Trans-Canada Hwy, Cache Creek
  • Husky Gas Station, 959 Trans-Canada Hwy, Cache Creek
  • Village of Ashcroft, 601 Bancroft St., Ashcroft
  • Esso Gas Station, 2475 Cornwall Rd., Ashcroft
  • Safety Mart Foods, 105 Railway Ave., Ashcroft
