Burnt pickup truck related to violent assault in Penticton: RCMP

Penticton RCMP believe a burnt out pickup truck is related to a violent assault earlier this week.

RCMP responded to an incident after witnesses said a man had been violently assaulted and struck by a vehicle in the 1100-block of Knight Street just after 9 pm. on Feb. 12, according to a press release from police.

The victim is a 42-year-old Penticton man and he was taken to hospital with serious injuries but he’s expected to recover.

Shortly after the assault, police were told about a Ford F-350 engulfed in flames on Dartmouth Drive near Grouse Place. Now, police think the burning truck is related to the assault.

“The investigation into this incident remains ongoing, and we want to ensure the public that based on initial findings, there is no immediate risk to public safety,” Supt. Beth McAndie said in the release. “Our investigators will continue to work diligently to identify suspects in this case.”

If you or anyone has any information in regard to this incident, you are asked to call the Penticton RCMP at 250-492-4300 or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
