One person is being treated for a gunshot wound in hospital as Kamloops RCMP continue to investigate a shooting in the parking lot of a hotel in the city.
RCMP responded to report of gunshots in the area of 500 Columbia St. West at around 7 a.m. today, Oct. 16, with upwards of eight police vehicles along with heavily armed officers with rifles.
When police arrived on the scene they were unable to locate any suspects and the area was contained for investigation and safety, according to an RCMP media release. A group of people were seen in the parking lot of the Hospitality Inn when the gunfire erupted.
One person in the area suffered a non-life-threatening gunshot wound and is being treated at the Royal Inland Hospital.

RCMP said in a release that the area has been cleared for suspects and safety in relation to the incident and has reopened to the public.
Lisa is a neighbour, who asked that her last name not be used. She said she and her kids woke up to the sound of gunfire at around 7 a.m. today, Oct. 16.
"I was in my room and I woke up to all of this, like me and my kids woke up to a shooting," she said.
Lisa said they heard four shots, a single bang, and then three quick bangs in succession.
RCMP said further updates will be provided when available, and officers will remain on scene as they continue their investigation.
