Finger injury forces Jean Pascal to postpone bout with Tavoris Cloud

MONTREAL - An injury to Jean Pascal's right index finger has forced the postponement of his IBO and IBF light heavyweight world championship bout with Tavoris Cloud.

The fight was to have taken place on Aug. 11.

Pascal (26-2-1, 16 KOs) suffered a severe contusion to the second metacarpal bone of the finger during training around June 20.

The 29-year-old tried to continue training and sparingly used his right, and even suggested he could take on world champion Cloud with one hand.

But after suffering two other minor injuries — one to his biceps and another to a thigh — tests conducted on Tuesday indicated the finger had not sufficiently healed for him to fight.

Yvon Michel, Pascal's promoter, immediately contacted Don King, Cloud's promoter.

The good news is that broadcaster Showtime is interested in the Pascal-Cloud fight enough to give the former world champion time to recover.
