Two dogs rescued from an abusive situation in the Shuswap now they have a new home together.

Goldie and Honey are a pair of dog moms who were rescued along with their 18 puppies from a property in Chase back in November.

The dogs were found emaciated in a makeshift dog house surrounded by hazards like sharp chicken wire. The pair were so malnourished they struggled to feed their babies, according to a press release from BC SPCA.

Goldie and Honey and their many pups were taken to the BC SPCA and were cared for until they gained weight and were ready to be adopted.

All of the puppies were quickly adopted into their forever homes, but Goldie and Honey were attached to each other so the BC SPCA wanted them both to go to the same home.

“Bonded pairs typically take longer to find homes,” Adrienne McBride, the BC SPCA’s senior director said in the release. “Guardians must be prepared to take on the costs and the responsibilities of two animals instead of one, which can be a lot to ask. The good news is that bonded animals do really well in new homes because they have the comfort and security of a companion to ease the transition.”

A woman had recently lost a pair of bonded dogs that she had adopted a few years ago, Pearl and Blue. She says her home felt like it was missing something when her dogs passed away, and knew she wanted to adopt another pair of bonded dogs.

She came across Goldie and Honey while looking through the BC SPCA website and shortly after made the journey to meet them. The three of them clicked right away and she took Goldie and Honey home with her.

That was back in December and now the pair are living their best lives sprawling across the couch with plans to go camping in the summer with their new owner.
