A tragic end to a missing person’s case in the Lillooet area as the body of a 75-year-old man was found late last week.
Ashcroft RCMP said in a brief media release today, Sept. 13, Joseph Zabotel’s body was found in the forest near his home on Friday.
Zabotel, who had dementia, went missing on Aug. 29 from his residence in the 1700 block of Highway 99 between Lillooet and Cache Creek.

He was the focus of an extensive search by RCMP, search and rescue volunteers and family.
Ashcroft RCMP Cpl. Jeffrey Raffle thanked the public for keeping an eye out for the missing man and offered his condolences to the family “whose love for their relative was apparent.”
