It’s been over 48 hours since a 75-year-old Lilloett man with dementia was reported missing and RCMP have renewed a call for the public's help in locating him.
After an extensive search of the area near Joseph Zabotel's home by Pemberton Search and Rescue and BC RCMP Police Dog Services, investigators are broadening the scope of the search.
“There is ongoing concern for Mr. Zabotel’s wellbeing,” Const. Richard Wright of Ashcroft RCMP said in a media release issued today, Sept. 1. “To be away from home for this long is out of character.”
Investigators would like to speak with anyone who may have picked up a hitchhiker along Highway 99 on Aug. 29, or anyone who may have spotted somebody walking along that highway, as Zabotel has ties to Washington State. He also has links to the Kamloops area.
Zabotel is a 75-year-old Indigenous man, last seen wearing a blue plaid shirt, blue jeans, and a blue baseball cap with the word ‘Sylvania’ written on it. He has dementia and may introduce himself as ‘Johnny Grinder.’
Anyone with information is asked to contact Ashcroft RCMP at 250-453-2216.
