A body was found after a small brush fire in Kelowna early Sunday morning but investigators don't believe the death is criminal in nature.
Kelowna RCMP were asked by the Kelowna Fire Department to attend a small brush fire off the west side of Spall Road by Mill Creek at around 2 a.m. yesterday, Sept. 10, because a body had been found, according to an RCMP media release.
After the blaze was extinguished, firefighters found the body a man believed to be associated with a small encampment.
Kelowna RCMP are working with the BC Coroners Service to identify both the identity of the victim and the cause of death.
Due to the unusual circumstances of the incident, the Kelowna RCMP Serious Crime Unit are investigating the case.
At this time, they have no evidence to believe that the incident was criminal in nature , RCMP said.
Anyone with information that may help in identifying the man are asked to call Kelowna RCMP at 250-762-3300 and reference file number 2023-54030.
