British Columbia's lieutenant governor will be touring the South Okanagan next week.

Janet Austin be making official visits to Osoyoos, Oliver, Keremeos, Okanagan Falls and Penticton, according to a media release from her office.

Austin is the honorary patron of the inaugural B.C. Indigenous Golf Championship being held at the Nk'mip Canyon Desert Golf Course in Oliver. The course is owned by the Osoyoos Indian Band. She'll present awards to the winners at the closing ceremony. While in Oliver she will tour Covert Farms Family Estate to learn about sustainable agrifood operations.

The lieutenant governor will be at Watermark Beach Resort in Osoyoos Monday, May 29, for a breakfast with members of the South Okanagan Chamber of Commerce before she heads to the Grist Mill in Keremeos for a tour of the historic site, followed by a stop at Sanderson Farms Market.

On Tuesday, she will meet with local veterans at the Okanagan Falls branch of the Royal Canadian Legion, then a tour of Avery Family Farms vertical lettuce farming operations.

It's off to Penticton on Wednesday to tour the South Okanagan Immigrant and Community Services centre where she will learn about the services offered.

"This official visit is part of a larger objective to visit communities throughout the province and celebrate the diversity and accomplishments of British Columbians," the release says. "In Austin's mandate, she has chosen to focus on advancing reconciliation, supporting democracy and championing inclusion."

Austin, B.C.'s 30th lieutenant governor, was appointed in 2018 and this is her first official visit to the South Okanagan.
