WEST KELOWNA - In a game that seemed it would never end, Mitch Newsome scored midway through the third overtime period, as the Penticton Vees outlasted the West Kelowna Warriors 4-3 in game three of their Interior Division Semi-Final on Friday night, March 6, at Royal LePage Place in West Kelowna.

Newsome roofed a pass from Cody DePourcq from behind the net, going up high on the Warriors Stephen Heslop at 9:37 into the sixth period. Newsome’s game-winning goal gives the Vees a 2-1 series lead, heading into game four Saturday, March 8.

Jack Ramsey, Dakota Conroy and Tyson Jost also scored the Vees, all in the first period, and Hunter Miska was sensational in goal, stopping 79 of 82 shots for first star honours; he stopped all 38 shots he faced in the three overtimes.

Tanner Campbell, Kylar Hope and Rylan Yaremko scored in a losing cause for West Kelowna, who lost their fourth game against the Vees this season, dating back to the regular season. Affiliate Stephen Heslop, starting in place of injured goalies Andy Desautels and Scott Patton, stopped 48 of 51 Vees shots in his seventh appearances with the Tribe.

The Vees finally manufactured a game-winner in the third overtime period, deep in the Tribe end and off a face-off. The puck came back to the blue-line and it was immediately thrown behind the net. DePourcq took that indirect pass and spun the puck out from to an open Newsome at 9:37.

Final Score: 4-3 Vees (3rd OT)

Shots: 82-51 West Kelowna (38-23 West Kelowna in the three overtime periods).

Power-plays: Vees 0-6 Warriors 0-3

Three Stars: 1) Hunter Miska 2) Kylar Hope 3) Mitch Newsome

The Vees look to take a commanding 3-1 series on Saturday, March 7, when they’re again in West Kelowna for game four of their series; face-off is 7pm.

The Vees have won their previous four visits to Royal LePlace Place, if you include the playoffs. Listen to the game on EZ Rock AM 800, or watch on www.fasthockey.com.
