A BC teacher has been banned from the profession for life after he was caught and convicted with images and videos of children being sexually abused.

Graham Christopher Bowering had been teaching at a school in the North Vancouver School District for 14 years before police used a search warrant in February 2021 to find videos, images and writing that police determined were “child pornography,” according to an agreement released by the Commissioner for Teacher Regulation and Bowering.

Bowering didn’t inform the school district about the investigation and continued teaching until he was arrested two weeks later.

He later pleaded guilty in February 2022 and was sentenced to a 10-month conditional sentence and two years probation. He was fired two weeks later.

The Commissioner for Teacher Regulation imposed a lifetime ban from teaching in BC.

“Bowering failed to act ethically and undermined the credibility of the teaching profession by violating laws that protect children from sexual exploitation,” the commissioner said.

The agreement mentions no previous history of discipline or other issues.
