Campers can finally start making plans for the 2021 season at B.C. parks.

B.C. Parks announced this morning, Feb. 24, in a media release the Discover Camping reservation service will open on March 8, providing B.C. residents with an opportunity to book their favourite campsite two months in advance of their arrival date.

B.C. residents will have priority access to campsite reservation throughout the summer season.

"Our provincial parks have never been as important as they are right now. They provide a special place to safely connect with nature and improve our health and well-being during these difficult times," Minister of Environment and Climate Change Strategy George Heyman said in the release.

"We are all looking forward to another summer of camping and outdoor recreation in B.C., and while public health concerns and advice remain, we are asking people to pick a campground as close to home as possible to avoid long road trips and non-essential travel," Heyman said.

Reservations can be made no further than two months from arrival at the campsite.

B.C. Parks expects this year’s camping season will be busy as COVID-19 restrictions on travel are expected to linger.

The reservation system will open to non-residents on July 8.

Backcountry camping reservations open on March 1 for the season for the Berg Lake Trail in Mount Robson Provincial Park and the canoe circuit in Bowron Lake Provincial Park. The Berg Lake Trail can be reserved from June 12 to Sept. 30, and the Bowron Lake Canoe Circuit can be reserved from May 15 to Sept. 23.
