A B.C. nurse who inappropriately used restraints on an elderly patient and then lied has been suspended for 28 days.
According to an Apr. 2 B.C. College of Nurses and Midwives decision, registered nurse Sandeep Sarao failed to use "appropriate application" when he secured a four-point restraint on an elderly, vulnerable patient.
The Surrey nurse then created false and misleading entries in the patient's medical records.
"Further, (Sarao) did not provide adequate bedclothes, bedding, and analgesic medication to ensure the comfort and dignity of the restrained elderly and vulnerable patient," the decision reads.

Sarao signed a consent agreement with the regulator admitting to his conduct.
Along with a 28-day suspension, Sarao will have to be supervised for six months and not work as the only registered nurse on duty. He's also barred from supervising students, orientating new staff members, working nights and isn't allowed to work for more than one employer.
He'll also have to take courses in professional standards, clinical decision-making, communications, documentation, ethics, and gerontology in nursing.
The regulator says it is satisfied that the terms will protect the public.
