A B.C. nurse who didn't respond to a patient that rang their call bell from their bathroom, and who then later died in hospital, has been suspended for two weeks.

Fort St. John licensed practical nurse Danielle Macnevin signed a consent agreement with the B.C. College of Nurses and Midwives admitting to her behaviour.

According to an Aug. 3 B.C. College of Nurses and Midwives decision, while Macnevin was working a night shift in March 2021 she did not complete multiple safety checks.

The decision said Macnevin did not respond to a call bell from a resident's bathroom who was then later found by the day staff, transferred to hospital, and subsequently died.

It's not clear but it appears that Macnevin was working in a seniors care home at the time.

Macnevin also did not complete safety checks of residents by answering and hanging up.

The licensed practical nurse signed a consent agreement accepting a two-week suspension.

The decision also said the nurse will be limited from being the sole nurse on duty and working night shifts, although doesn't state how long this will last.

Macnevin will also have to complete some education in ethics.

It appears no criminal charges have been laid against Macnevin.

The nursing regulator provided no other details about the circumstances of the case.
