The BC Green Party has announced the candidates selected to run in four ridings for the upcoming election including Kamloops.

Randy Sunderman will serve as the BC Green Party's candidate in Kamloops Centre, according to a media release from the party issued today, April 17.

Sunderman has sat on the boards of Community Futures of Thompson Country, Venture Kamloops Business Care Committee, the Aberdeen Neighbourhood Association and the Kamloops Area Preservation Association and is a member of the Kamloops and District Chamber of Commerce.

“I am thrilled to welcome Cammy, Devyani, Pat, and Randy to our distinguished slate of candidates for 2024," party leader, Sonia Furstenau, said in the release. "Their dedication to their communities and forward-thinking leadership qualities exemplify the kind of visionary candidates we proudly present."

Sunderman currently works as an economic consultant for an environmental consultation agency and has a degree in biology, the party said. He has taken on several projects in Kamloops and across the country over the past 30 years.

He's an expert in the fields of economic development, business planning, socio-economic assessments for land use planning, and economic assessments for major projects.

"I am honoured to represent a party that deeply values the balance between our environment, social welfare, economic integrity, and healthcare excellence," Sunderman said in the release.

“With Kamloops poised for growth and diversification, now is the time for innovative, evidence-based approaches, and I look forward to working hard in a collaborative fashion to ensure these crucial initiatives succeed.”

So far Sunderman is up against BC United Party incumbent Peter Milobar and BC Conservative candidate Dennis Giesbrecht. Kamloops city councillor Bill Sarai announced last month he intended to run for the BC NDP nomination in the riding.

The 2024 BC Election will take place on or before Oct. 19.
