BARRIERE - Police in Barriere are asking any witnesses to a fatal snowmobiling incident to come forward.

On Sunday afternoon, Jan. 28, police, search and rescue crews and B.C. ambulance convened on an area near Harp Mountain to rescue a pinned snowmobiler.

According to an RCMP news release today, Jan. 31, police received the report at approximately 12:40 p.m. that the man had fallen into a creek and was pinned by his snowmobile.

Barriere RCMP activated Search and Rescue resources from Barriere and Kamloops. Members found other snowmobilers in the area who attempted to help the man.

The search and rescue personnel confirmed the man was found unresponsive and he was later confirmed dead. The body of the Kamloops man was recovered that day, according to the news release.

Police are assisting the B.C. Coroners Service with its investigation, and Barriere RCMP would like to speak to any snowmobilers who have information regarding this incident, or those who assisted the search and rescue team at the scene.

Those involved who have not been contacted by police are asked to call the Barriere RCMP at 250-672-9918.
