VERNON - A man charged with attempted murder in connection to a shooting in Vernon in a year ago has pleaded guilty to a variety of lesser charges.

Tyson Darryl Cole, born in 1987, was facing numerous charges, including attempted murder, in relation to a shooting in the 3900 block of 33 Street in Vernon on May 1, 2018.

Cole pleaded guilty in a Vernon courtroom May 6 to reckless discharge of a firearm, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, possession of a concealed weapon, as well as charges of possession of a weapon while prohibited and possession of a firearm without a licence.

Cole was facing 11 charges that also included, discharging a firearm with intent to wound and disfigure, aggravated assault and pointing a firearm.

In May 2018, police said that a 21-year-old Vernon man had been shot at 3900 block of 33 Street and taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. RCMP said investigators believed the shooting was targeted.

Weeks after the shooting, police issued a wanted alert for Tyson Darryl Cole saying he was considered armed and dangerous. He was arrested at Kin Beach on July 26, 2018.

Cole is due back in court for sentencing on Nov. 6, 2019.
