Armed and dangerous suspect apprehended at Vernon beach

Tyson Darryl Cole.

VERNON - A man wanted for attempted murder and other firearms offences was arrested at Kin Beach yesterday afternoon in Vernon.

Tyson Darryl Cole was wanted in connection to a shooting earlier this year on 33 Street in Vernon. The incident left a 21-year-old Vernon man shot and injured.

Cole, who was previously described as armed and dangerous, was apprehended by police on July 26 at Kin Beach and taken back to the Vernon RCMP detachment, RCMP spokesperson Const. Kelly Brett says in a release.

“After a short foot pursuit with the male, the officers were able to safely take Cole into custody,” Brett says in the release. “At the time of the arrest, the beach was sparse of people and the responding officers did a great job at apprehending the male without further incident.”

Court documents show Cole faces 11 charges in relation to the May 1 shooting including attempted murder, aggravated assault, discharging a firearm with intent to wound, pointing a firearm, careless use or storage of a firearm and several other counts related to guns.

He has a lengthy criminal record in B.C., including a charge of manslaughter in 2014 (he eventually pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of assault causing bodily harm.) According to a report from the Vancouver Sun, the incident relates to the stabbing death of a homeless man in Surrey.
