VERNON - A man described by police as armed and dangerous is connected to a shooting earlier this month in Vernon.
Tyson Darryl Cole, born in 1987, is facing numerous charges including attempted murder in relation to a May 1 shooting in the 3900 block of 33 Street in Vernon.
In an earlier release, police said they received a report just after 2 a.m. that day of a 21-year-old Vernon man who was shot and injured. He was taken to hospital with non life-threatening injuries.
At the time, police said they believed the act was targeted and the public was not at risk.
On May 29, police issued a wanted alert for Tyson Darryl Cole, saying only that he is wanted for attempted murder and other firearm offences, and is considered armed and dangerous.
When asked for more information about the incident, RCMP spokesperson Const. Kelly Brett would only say the warrant originated out of the North Okanagan and did not specifically tie him to the May 1 shooting.
Court documents show Cole faces nine charges in relation to the May 1 shooting including attempted murder, discharging a firearm with intent to wound, pointing a firearm, careless use or storage of a firearm and several other counts related to guns.
He has a lengthy criminal record in B.C., including a charge of manslaughter in 2014 (he eventually pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of assault causing bodily harm.) According to a report from the Vancouver Sun, the incident relates to the stabbing death of a homeless man in Surrey.
The latest charges were sworn on May 25 in Vernon.
If you have any information about Tyson Cole or where he might be, contact the Vernon-North Okanagan RCMP at 250-545-7171 but do not approach him. He is described as African American, 5’8”, 165 lbs., with black hair and brown eyes.
