Ashcroft RCMP investigating after train crashes into car, injuring driver

Police are looking for witnesses after a CN train smashed into a passenger vehicle yesterday morning.

Ashcroft RCMP responded to a report of a collision between a train and a passenger vehicle near Old Cariboo Road and Tingley Street yesterday, Dec. 19, just before 8:30 a.m., according to a RCMP media release

When emergency crews responded, they found a heavily damaged Mazda MX3. Early indicators at the scene suggest the vehicle was struck on the passenger side by a southbound CN train.

The force of the impact from the train tipped the passenger car onto its drivers side before it finally came to rest back on its wheels, police say.

The driver and only occupant of the vehicle was immediately transported from the scene by ambulance to a hospital. Police say he sustained non-life threatening injuries in the collision and has since been released from hospital.

Anyone who witnessed the collision and has not yet spoke to police are asked to contact the Ashcroft RCMP at 250-453-2216.
